In most Canadian provinces, you can see a physiotherapist without a referral. However, some insurance plans may require a doctor's referral for coverage. Check with your provider.

A typical session costs $80-$150 depending on the clinic and province. Many employer health plans cover physiotherapy. Some provinces cover physio through their health plan for specific conditions.

Physiotherapists focus on exercise-based rehabilitation, manual therapy, and movement retraining. Chiropractors primarily focus on spinal adjustments. Many conditions benefit from both — your physio can advise if you'd benefit from chiropractic care too.

It depends on your condition. Acute injuries may resolve in 4-6 sessions. Chronic conditions or post-surgical rehab may need 12-20+ sessions. Your physiotherapist will create a treatment plan after your initial assessment.

Coverage varies by province. Ontario (OHIP) covers physio only for those 19 and under, 65+, or recently discharged from hospital. Most Canadians access physio through employer benefits or pay out of pocket.
